The boys cottages at Udayan have been undergoing refurbishment supported by donations from La cité de la joie de Dominique Lapierre. One of the cottages has been completed and the remaining 3 are in progress.
It was a felt necessity to refurbish all 4 Boys Cottages at Udayan to provide the boys with a living condition conducive to their overall development. The Cottages were built in the year 1983, the year after Udayan shifted its base to Barrackpore campus. Refurbishment of the Boys Cottages could not be undertaken for a long time due to shortage of funds. The priority was rightly realised by Udayan’s most ardent benefactor Mr. and Mrs. Dominique Lapierre.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to City of Joy Aid, UK and Mrs. Kathryn Spink – one of the Trustees of the organisation, for donating an amount of INR 12, 88, 062, towards renovation of 2 Boys Cottages in the year 2013- 14. The fund was effectively utilised for giving an overall new look to the cottages by means of installing all essential facilities for the children. The lighting system inside the cottages is now improved, the sanitation system is now up to the mark to maintain good health and hygiene among children. The visit of the Members from La cité de la joie de Dominique Lapierre, at Udayan on 26th November 2013 once again reconfirmed the commendable work done by Udayan, as they instantly committed to sponsor the renovation work for the other 2 cottages. An amount of INR 12, 50, 000 was donated by the Foundation towards refurbishment work for the other two cottages by 2014- 15. Thank you once again to Dominique Lapierre City of Joy Aid and its Members for contributing towards the noble cause and assisting Udayan to achieve its goal- upliftment of children whose parents are suffering from leprosy.
